COVID-19 booster vaccine

Posted on October 13th, 2021

Stockport residents do not need to call their GP about the flu or COVID-19 booster vaccine. Reducing the number of phone calls they receive helps GP practice staff to respond more quickly to those who need medical help.

GP practices are offering vaccinations in different ways. This might be due to resources, such as staffing or vaccine availability, but everyone who is eligible will get their jabs.

The COVID-19 booster vaccine dose, which is available six months after the second dose, helps improve the protection given by the first two doses of the vaccine. It helps give longer-term protection against getting seriously ill from COVID-19. Those who are eligible can book theirs now at, or by calling 119, between 7am and 11pm, seven days a week.

The flu vaccine is a safe and effective vaccine, available every winter, to help protect people at risk of getting seriously ill from flu. Your GP will contact you to make an appointment if you are eligible. Or, you can find out how to get it at a local pharmacy by visiting

Dr Cath Munro, Chair of Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “It is really important for those who are eligible to have both the flu and COVID-19 booster vaccines this winter. Stockport GP practices are making plans to ensure that everyone who is eligible gets vaccinated. Check your local practice website to find out how you will get yours.”

If you haven’t had a first or second dose yet, it’s not too late. Visit the National Booking Service website or call 119 to book.
